Low-Grade Squamous Lesions: LSIL and ASC-US

Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) in cytology encompasses the histological finding of both HPV effect and CIN1.

A cytological diagnosis of LSIL is a strong indicator of histological LSIL, while ASC-US (atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance) suggests the possibility of histological LSIL.

Both LSIL and ASC-US are considered to be a low grade result and are managed using the same clinical approach.
